THE BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE

SIGN OF ARYEH (LEO), “The Lion”

The final triumph of the Lion of the tribe of Judah

over Babylon the Great, and over all the enemies of the children of Israel.

In that day the with his sore and great and strong sword

shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan

that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is

in the sea.” (Isa. 27:1)

Aryeh is represented by the 18th letter of the

Hebrew alphabet and has a value of 90.

Tsade

Modern Hebrew

90

Paleo Hebrew

The Semitic pictograph of the letter Tsade was of a man lying on his side. It’s related to the Hebrew root tzod, meaning "to hunt, catch, capture” which corresponds perfectly with the nature of a Lion.

From the book, The Glorious Hebrew Letters by Darren Kelley it states: “Tzadi symbolizes righteousness and damnation.” The word Tzadi itself has the value of 104, the same value as the word le'lamed meaning "to teach,” and the word Sodom, meaning “to burn, scorch, consume with fire.” These are words that relate to the final events symbolized by the sign of Leo, “the Lion.”

The modern form of the letter tsade has the shape of a person on bended knee with hands raised in offering praise, while the Paleo form is of a person laying prostrate on the ground in humble submission. “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Rom. 14:11)

The ordinal value for Tzadi is 18, with a numerical value of 90. Both of these numbers are significant in the story symbolized in the sign of Leo, “the Lion.”

18 is (2+4+6+8+10+12+14+16+18) = 90

A clear indication that the letter Tzadi is representative of the fall of Babylon is in its numerical value. You’ll recall that in his arrogancy king Nebuchadnezzar had made an image all of gold sixty cubits (90 feet) high to represent himself and the kingdom of Babylon. And it is in Revelation chapter 18 that Babylon the great is judged.

*****

We’ve now come full circle around the ecliptic to the last of the Mazzaroth Signs as they relate to the history and redemption of the children of Israel. In the previous sign, Cancer culminated with the second coming of Christ and the gathering together of his people baring them upwards on eagle’s wings unto himself and taking them to heaven. This was in fulfillment of Christ’s promise to his disciples, and his prayer to the Father:

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (Jn. 14:2,3)

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” (Jn. 17:24)

The last act of the drama between good and evil, between Christ and Satan, is herein represented by the final triumph of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah over Hydra, “the Fleeing Serpent.” “That old serpent called the Devil and Satan.” (Revelation 12:9). The victory of Christ and his people over “BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Rev. 17:5).

Leo, the Lion is depicted in the heavens as piercing the neck of Hydra, “the Fleeing Serpent.” The corresponding Hebrew tribe for Leo is Judah. The words of Jacob spoken over his son were:

Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee. Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.” (Gen. 49:8-10)

Here Jacob likens his son Judah to that of a lion, and prophesies that his hand would be “in the neck of his enemies.” Note the location of the paws (or hands) of the lion that are stretched out over and towards the neck of Hydra, “the Fleeing Serpent.”

The Hebrew name for Leo, is 'Aryeh’ meaning: “in the sense of violence); a lion:--(young) lion, + pierce (from the margin).

From Heb. 'arah, aw-raw', a prim root, to pluck, gather (in the sense of violence) [H0738]. Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance.

Here we see the Hebrew meaning for a lion is “to pluck, gather, violence, and to pierce.” These are all words that relate to events surrounding the 2nd coming of Christ, i.e., the destruction of Babylon, and the safety of those who remain and are left.

Regarding the destruction of BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS at the end of time we read:

And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.” (Rev. 18:21)

For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together” (Mt. 24:28). This verse taken in context refers to the wicked who will be “taken” to where the eagles or vultures are gathered together.

Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord. Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.” (Joel 3:11-15)

In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.” (Isa, 27:1)

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” (Rev. 1:7)

By contrast we have the salvation of the righteous ones. The Hebrew letter Tsadi or tzadi that Leo is represented by is from the word tzadik which means “a righteous person.” Concerning this group of people at the coming of Christ we read:

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.” (Jn. 10:28-30)

The Hebrew month corresponding to the sign of Leo is Av, which means “father.”

There are 9 principle stars that make up the outline of the constellation Leo. Notice how the head of the lion is in the form of a sickle.

Following the announcement of the fall of Babylon in Revelation 14 we read of the sickle and the harvest of the earth;

“And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.” (Rev. 14:14-19)

THE LION

There are several applications of this lion in the sign of Leo. In Daniel’s vision, the kingdom of Babylon was represented by a lion (See Dan. 7:4) wherein Daniel was thrown unto a lion’s den.

The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.” (Jer. 4:7)

The lion in this passage is referring to King Nebuchadnezzar coming to invade Judah taking the inhabitants captive into Babylon.

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion. He hath laid my vine waste…” (Joel 1:6,7)

In the New Testament Satan is described as a “roaring lion.”

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Pet. 5:8)

He is also described as “the great dragon that was cast out, that old serpent...” (Rev. 12:9)

However, the greatest Lion of them all is “the Lion of the tribe of Judah”, the Lord himself who shall “roar” as a lion out of his habitation to make the entire earth desolate, from one end to the other.

Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The Lord shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the Lord hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the Lord…And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.” (Jer. 25:30-31,33)

The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.” (Joel 3:16) See also Rev. 10:1-3.

As the Lion of the tribe of Judah he shall pierce Hydra, “The Fleeing Serpent,” the enemy of all of God’s people who is the devil by whom is also symbolized “BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”

HEBREW TRIBE: Judah

The corresponding tribe of Leo is Judah:

Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; Your father’s children shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people. Binding his donkey to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes.” (Gen. 49:8-11) NKJV
